Philanthropy Programs

Increasing educational opportunities for students has long been an important part of our work at The Foundation. We are proud of the continuing impact of our employee scholarship programs and of our university endowments and partnerships with national education organizations such as the United Negro College Fund and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, which are made through our diversity initiatives

Scholarships for UPSers

In addition to the many scholarships made available to the public though our diversity focus area, The UPS Foundation also supports two scholarships for the children of UPSers; The James E. Casey and George D. Smith Scholarships.

James E. Casey Scholarship

Established in honor of our founder, the James E. Casey Scholarship provides tuition support to the children of full- and part-time UPSers who are entering four-year degree programs at colleges and universities.  Each year, 100 scholarships are awarded.  Since being established in 1963, over 3,200 Casey Scholarships have been awarded, totaling more than $36 million.

George D. Smith Scholarship

The George D. Smith Scholarship was established in 1983 to honor a former UPS CEO.  The scholarship provides support for children of fill- or part-time UPSers who plan to enroll in full-time two-year programs.  More than 964 Smith Scholarships have been awarded, totaling more than $2.5 million.

In addition to providing higher education support, The UPS Foundation also established a number of endowments with various colleges, universities and educational organizations since as far back as 1959.  These endowments have continued to grow in value, and today, are worth nearly $300 million.  While the efforts of The UPS Foundation have moved beyond endowments to align with our strategic focus, past support is still yielding a positive impact.

Our Partners

Among others, we partner with the following organizations to support educational opportunities for students as part of our commitment to diversity:
